The past few months have brought some challenging conditions across Dorset. Freezing temperatures, heavy rain and localised flooding made travel difficult for many, and in some cases, dangerous.
As we move out of the worst of the winter weather, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on how our team stepped up to support the local community during that time.
At DCM Autocentres, we’re more than just a garage serving Shaftesbury and Blandford. We’re part of the community, and when conditions get tough, that matters.
Keeping our mobile tyre fitting running around the clock
During the coldest weeks, we made the decision to keep our mobile tyre fitting van operating 24/7. Punctures, blowouts and tyre damage don’t wait for convenient hours, especially when roads are icy or waterlogged.
We received calls at all times of day and night from drivers who were stuck, stranded or unable to get to work. Whether it was early morning or late evening, we did everything we could to respond quickly and safely.
For some people, it meant the difference between getting home safely and being left in difficult conditions.

Staying open late during flooding
When flooding affected parts of the area, we knew some drivers were going to be caught out. Water damage, debris in the road and sudden breakdowns created real problems.
During that period, we kept our branches open later than usual so anyone who found themselves stuck had somewhere to turn. Sometimes it was a tyre issue, sometimes it was damage caused by floodwater, and sometimes people simply needed advice.
It wasn’t about business hours. It was about being available when people needed help.
Helping emergency workers get where they needed to be
One of the things we’re most proud of during the flooding was using our 7-seater 4×4 to help transport emergency workers to and from their shifts.
With certain routes impassable and travel disrupted, getting essential workers to hospitals and key services became difficult. We stepped in where we could, helping bridge that gap so critical staff could continue doing their jobs.
It was a small contribution in the wider picture, but it mattered.
Community support isn’t seasonal
What we did during the severe weather reflects something that runs through the business all year round.
Our management team already commits one full day every month to volunteer for local causes. From helping community spaces to supporting local initiatives, giving time back is something we believe in strongly.
The recent weather simply reinforced that mindset. When the community needs support, we show up.
Being part of Shaftesbury and Blandford
We’re proud to serve drivers across Shaftesbury, Blandford and the surrounding areas. Whether it’s everyday tyre fitting and MOTs or stepping in during extreme weather, our aim is always the same: to be reliable, approachable and ready to help.
As we head into brighter months and hopefully calmer conditions, we just want to say thank you. Thank you to our customers for your patience during busy periods, and thank you to our team who went above and beyond to support the community when it mattered most.
Here’s to safer roads and warmer weather ahead.
